Vitamin C – A Skin Care Essential

Vitamin C is one of the safest and most effective ingredients utilized today in skin care. With the ability to enhance collagen production, eliminate discoloration (by breaking up melanin in the skin) and dramatically reduce the effects of photoaging (by as much as 400% according to some studies), the all natural antioxidant is a vital element to anyone’s skin care routine. In fact, with the UV protective benefits becoming more well known, many dermatologists are now recommending utilizing topical vitamin C at a youn

Mad Hippie’s vitamin C serum is packed full of the effective antioxidant in the form of sodium ascorbyl phosphate, but why use this form of vitamin C rather than just plain old l-ascorbic acid?
* Stability -

L-ascorbic acid by itself is very unstable and can oxidize rapidly. Once oxidized l-ascorbic acid turns a slightly brownish color and can actually release free radicals on to the skin rather than fighting them. This can lead to increased damage to the skin and actually have many of the opposite effects of non-oxidized vitamin C. By using sodium ascorbyl phosphate the risk of oxidation is greatly reduced leading to a longer shelf life and easier transportation from manufacturer to store (in which time products can be exposed to short periods of heat and other non-ideal environments that can break down traditional L-AA).

* Better Bioavailability

L-ascorbic acid
is unable to penetrate the lipid barrier of the skin and instead simply sits on top of the face with very little reaching the inner layers of the skin. Sodium ascorbyl phosphate (SAP) on the other hand is the salt of l-ascorbic acid and is thus able to easily penetrate the skin’s lipid barrier. Once penetrated SAP is broken down by the skin to free l-ascorbic acid where its many benefits can be realized.

* Less Irritation -

Traditional L-AA can have irritating effects on the skin and can only be used at certain percentages in products without causing users some discomfort. SAP on the other hand is much less harsh and can be used at greater volumes to yield better results without any irritation or downtime. L-AA is also known to irritate the pores and increase acne in many users while SAP is actually effective at reducing cases of acne.

We hope this gives you a better idea of the benefits of Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate over traditional L-Ascorbic Acid. In creating all of our natural skin care products we try to not only ensure we are using the best actives, but the most bioavailable forms of these actives. Our goal is, and must always be, to produce both the safest and most effective products. By increasing the overall health of your skin you can enhance natural beauty, reduce wrinkles and restore your skin’s youthful glow.g age to prevent premature aging as well as reduce the risk of skin cancer.

Types with Thrashing Of Skin Tissue

How to treat scarring and skin damages resulted from acne is of great concern to patients with moderate to severe acne. Failed or inadequate treatment of acne is a major cause in development of scarring

Acne spots:

Flat discolorations either brown or red.They are more likely to fade away either gradually without treatment or using fading creams. Post inflammatory pigmentations are classified in the same category. Blocks of pink hyperpigmentations seen following skin breakouts and more likely prolonged acne.

Ice-pick lesions, rolling scars, box car scars: they all associated with some degree of depression in the skin but the shape of the scar within the skin is different. For icepick scars the depression is in the form of a triangle with an opening <2mm. While for boxcar scars with an opening between 1-4mm. This shape is more or less a cube. For rolling scars the opening and the bottom tend to be larger> 4mm. They may be superficial or deep, fairly linear but irregular and generally turn out on the cheeks. These lesions are variably resistant to the treatments and the more penetrating they are the longer it takes to be healed totally. Acne lesions can lead to ice pick scars.

Depressed fibrotic scars:

They present as large with sharp margins and steep sides. Their base is rigid, white and can not be stretched. They may result from severe lesions such as cystic and nodular forms of acne. Read more on depressed scars and their management.

Atrophic scar macules:

This type of lesions manifest as soft, distensible, ivory-white in color and small in size (few millimeter in diameter). Acne is recurrently associated with atrophic scars. Acne scars are result of improper deposition of collagen and elastin and insufficient wound repair process. Lining epithelium is not flat and atrophic but hyperplastic.

Healing them involves inducement of the skin's repair mechanisms and rebuilding elastin and other fibers. Overall they have a good prognosis. They do not expand in size or number over time. However, aging has an adverse effect on acne caused scarring and render them more pronounced.

Five Simple Tips to Get Healthier Skin

Normal Skin: Skin with a clear, supple surface that is neither dry nor oily.
Use products that don’t strip your skin of moisture. Mild cleansers and light moisturizers with sunscreen work best. Toner isn’t required.

Oily Skin: Skin with overactive sebaceous glands; often with enlarged pores.
The key to achieving balanced skin is using the right products to help your skin maintain the ideal amount of oil in the skin. Toners often help to remove more oil that cleansers alone. Look for light, oil-free moisturizers with sunscreen, or try a powder sunscreen.

Dry Skin: Skin that produces a low level of sebum and struggles to retain moisture.
By using the right moisturizing products, you can trap water in the skin and even repair the damaged lipid barrier. Stick with gentle, creamy cleansers and look for moisturizers with Vitamin E or natural oils.

Combination Skin: Skin that needs both moisture and oil to reach a healthy balance.
Combination skin often experiences oiliness in what is called the T-zone area. This can include the forehead, nose, and chin. The cheeks are often dry or very dry. The right products are essential to achieve balance without over-drying or over-moisturizing the skin. Gentle foaming cleansers work best. Moisturizers vary, depending on which side of the combo side you lean to, oily or dry.

Sensitive Skin: Skin that is thin or fine-textured and is prone to irritation and/or allergic reactions.
Sensitive skin may be easily irritated for a variety of reasons. Being aware of how your skin reacts to specific products and making sure you limit those reactions will keep your skin happy. Look for products that specifically say "safe for sensitive skin." Chemical-free products also tend to cause fewer reactions.
