Take Care of Your Hands

Many women undergo from dry, crumpled and blotchy look skin on their hands. Dermatologists propose the next tips to keep hands younger looking:

1. What you do for you face-you do for your hands: And that means, massage, moisturize and an occasional manicure which is the equivalent of ‘facials’ for the hands.

2. For very dry hands- Water is the main culprit of this condition. We tend to wash our hands more frequently than our faces. Often harsh anti bacterial soaps can wash away the lipids (fat molecules that hold on to the moisture). So using a gentle cleanser/moisturizing face wash on your hands can control excessive dryness.

3. Moisturizing- Hand creams containing glycerin work great and if you find these too greasy, one can wipe off the excess with a tissue. To battle redness, try products with aloe and calming chamomile etc. Many women find that the simple trick of slathering on Vaseline on their hands and covering it with cotton gloves overnight works great and results in well moisturized hands the next morning.

4. Age spots and wrinkles- Prescription or over-the-counter hydroquinone and kojic acids containing creams work great on the facial age spots, so why should hands be any different? However diligence is the key and one has to apply these regularly to see results.

5. Laser- This is an expensive treatment that definitely works. Helpful in taking care of both wrinkled hands and age spots, laser treatment may require multiple sittings. Fractional laser treatments are also available but these have received mixed reviews. Also, after the treatment, one has to continue using sunscreen on hands and face as age spots can reappear.

Modern Treatment For Skin Grafts

The method is much cheaper than alike treatment, charitable it the possible to be used at length in third-world countries.

Burns patients usually undergo multiple skin grafts that leave spiteful scars and cause pain. A information of new treatments have sprung up in the past decade, counting the spray-on skin used on the Bali bombing patients.

However, cost and unreliable victory rates denote skin grafts stay the main option for many patients. Developer of the new method, Royal Adelaide Hospital burns surgeon Dr John Greenwood, said the seal was cheaper than existing devices, which can cost about $250,000.

"If we can get the cost low enough you can use it wherever and that's what I want to leave at the back, a legacy of treating burns patients in poor nations," he said. The new two-stage method involves a ecological artificial seal being inserted into the injury while new skin is grown in a laboratory.

Different customary skin grafts which need large strips of skin to be in use from uninjured areas of the body and placed over the wound, Dr Greenwood's technique requires only a 10cm four-sided figure sample. The cells are grown in the lab over about three weeks to make a compound skin.

In the meantime, the biodegradable close lying inside the wound helps protect against infection and ensures the area leftovers open awaiting the compound skin can be laid on top.Dr Greenwood is currently trialing the safety of the seal in pigs and hopes to start clinical trials in burns patients soon. Existing seals are less resistant to infection and wound contraction.

Farmer David Mickan, who suffer third-degree burns to 55 per cent of his body in 2002, said removing the need for skin grafts would be welcome."The skin grafts were probably one of the most painful things that anyone could put up with," said the 64-year-old, who was engulfed by flames during a burn-off on his South Australian farm.

"My grafted skin is till tight and itchy. It's not painful but is uncomfortable."This new skin Dr Greenwood is working on will be more like your old skin and able to sweat and breathe."

Wound management expert Professor Stephen Prowse said there was huge potential for Dr Greenwood's technique to treat the hundreds of thousands of people with major open wounds such as leg ulcers."The big area in wound treatment is the action of multifaceted wounds or chronic ulcers that come from complications with diabetes and vascular problems," said Professor Prowse.

Skin Care For Men

The following are some great ways that you can keep your skin looking great :

Tip #1 - Clean Your Face - One of the most important things you can do to improve your skin is to keep it clean. This is a very simple tip; however, it is one that many men tend to forget. When you keep your skin, it looks much healthier and more vibrant as well. Just taking the time to wash your skin twice a day can go a long way towards keeping your skin looking cleanand clear.

Tip #2 - Learn about Your Skin Type - Yes, you have a skin type. If you want to take good care of your skin, you need to know what it is. You can have normal skin, oily skin, dry skin, or a skin that is a combination. There are many products designed for oily, dry, and normal skin; however, it can be a bit more difficult to find products for combination skin. Remember, if you use the wrong skin care products, you can make your skin look worse, so be sure to find out what skin type you are.

Tip #3 - Shave Carefully - It is important that you always shave carefully. You want to avoid getting a shaving rash or any cuts on your face. If you are in a hurry it is easy to make a mistake, so use some products to help you get a great shave and take the time to do it right. You may want to purchase a good shaving foam or gel that will provide you with a smooth shave, and after you are done use an aftershave that will keep the skin smooth and help avoid any rashes.

Tip #4 - Use a Toner - While you want to keep your face clean, it is also important to tone your face as well. Using a toner on your face will firm up your skin and it can also reduce the size of your pores too. Do this every day and your skin will begin to look much healthier.

Tip #5 - Always Moisturize Your Face - It is very important that you keep your face moisturized, which will keep your skin health and soft as well. Never forget this part of your facial skin care routine.
