As we go through life, our skin suffers. Sun exposure, chronic dehydration, environmental influences, poor diet and hormonal imbalances bring about the appearance of wrinkles, blemishes, loose skin, darkened spots and other unwanted signs of ageing. While you can certainly find a skincare treatment at your local store, chances are it would contain questionable ingredients that produce - at most - minimal results.
This is why the Wentworth Clinic has developed a line of exclusive, 100% natural organic skincare cream and products designed to transform you inside and out. Because your skin is a reflection of how you live, the best way to reverse the damage is to put back what was taken out. Lasers and Light Devices Explained

Lasers and light devices are everywhere. They can be found in DVD and CD players, grocery store scanners and traffic lights, and are used in almost every area of medicine, including dermatology.

LASER is actually an acronym that stands for "light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation." Lasers amplify light by stimulating photons, storing them, and releasing them as a beam of light. Different lasers emit different wavelengths of light, allowing us to reach targeted layers of the dermis to treat specific areas of concern without damaging surrounding tissue. To be considered a laser, the light must have certain properties – for one thing, the beam of light must be one uniform color. Since not all of the devices that we call lasers meet these criteria, many fall under the broader category of light devices. Light devices use several colors of light and are not limited to one as lasers are.

Dermatologists have access to a wide variety of very powerful and specialized lasers and light devices, and most of these machines cost fifty to one hundred thousand dollars. Your derm can use lasers to remove tattoos, scars, sunspots and varicose veins, as well as to tighten sagging skin, stimulate collagen production, improve skin texture and dramatically reduce the appearance of scars and stretch marks.
At this time, there are no lasers for home use for skin concerns. (I have seen one that claims to grow hair, but nothing for skin). There are many new home use light devices for hair, acne and wrinkles; however, home use light devices are simply not powerful enough or precise enough to offer the same efficacy you can get from a dermatologist. While you'll never get the same results that you can get in a doctor's office, some home devices do offer real benefits.
Hair RemovalOver the past couple of years, a number of home hair removal systems – including Silk'n, Epila, Argos Rio and TRIA – have appeared on the market, with prices from less than $200 on eBay to nearly $800 at Bergdorf Goodman. While some of these devices do indeed remove some hair or slightly slow its growth, in my opinion they are not worth your money. I have read accounts in online message boards of users who tried some of the cheaper versions only to find that the devices didn't work, or worse, that the lasers zapped little holes in the skin and left tiny scabs and scars. The lasers used in dermatologist's office are much more effective for hair removal than these weak light devices.
Even when they do work, home light devices are limited. For one thing, they can only be used by those with white or very light brown skin – those with darker skin could be left with nasty burns. Also for safety reasons, home lasers can't be used to treat hair on the face because the laser could damage the eyes. In contrast, professional lasers can be used anywhere on the body and many, such as the Cool Glide, can be used to treat those with dark brown complexions or even a tan – however, no laser can treat very blond or gray hair, as these hairs just don't contain enough melanin.
It's also worth noting that home devices won't last forever. If you read the manufacturers' descriptions of some of these devices, you'll find they are only designed with enough juice to treat the average-sized body for one full cycle (about six sessions). After that, you'll have to pay for costly replacement parts or even buy a whole new device.
My other huge concern about home devices is that people will try to use them to treat conditions they were never designed to treat. For example, I shudder to think what would happen if someone tried to remove their own tattoo! Some tattoos, such as those around the mouth, darker upon exposure to certain wavelengths of light. Your tattooed lip liner could end up black! These devices should never be kept anywhere they could be reached by children.
Incidentally, there are also "laser combs" that are designed to make hair grow instead of zapping it away – at least one of these has been approved by the FDA to treat hereditary male baldness. In my view, these products either don't work or offer such meager results as to be nearly useless.
This past June, Palomar, a respected manufacturer of professional cosmetic laser and light devices, was the first company to receive FDA approval for a home laser designed to treat periorbital wrinkles (also known as crow's feet). A similar device, Omnilux New-U, is already on the market and uses LED technology to minimize crow's feet and improve the tone and clarity of the skin. While it may be too soon to tell, I personally don't think these devices are powerful enough to have much effect on wrinkles. You're much better off putting your money toward professional treatments.
Professional lasers like the Pearl and Fraxel can dramatically improve the skin's texture and tone while smoothing out fine wrinkles and stimulating collagen production to help firm sagging skin. Though highly effective, these treatments are costly – about $1,500 for the Pearl and up to $3,000 for a package of three Fraxel sessions. Botox and Dysport can temporarily smooth wrinkles for $350 to $900.
Omnilux's Clear-UThe one home light device I can recommend without reservation is Omnilux's Clear-U. This product has many imitators; ignore them and spring for the real thing (around $300). Clear–U is FDA-approved and works by alternately flooding the skin with red and blue light to reduce inflammation and kill pimple–causing bacteria in those with mild to moderate acne. After a four–to–eight week course of twice-weekly sessions, breakouts can be reduced by up to 70 percent. Keep in mind, though, that the device is not a cure–all–you should still consult a dermatologist, practice good hygiene and treat acne prone areas with a product containing salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide.
With the exception of the Clear-U, I give thumbs down to home laser and light devices. Maybe in the future the technology will improve, but for the time being, I say it's better to save your money or opt for professional treatment by a dermatologist.
Wishing you great skin!

Tom Shales reviews tonight's retrospecial,'The Women of "Saturday Night Live"'

While fans of "Saturday Night Live" wait for the show to gel in a so-far unsettled and uncertain new season, NBC dives back into archives for another prime-time retrospecial, this one devoted to "The Women of 'Saturday Night Live' " in all their hilarious glory. Or much of it, anyway.
This Story

To sweeten the proposition, the special (at 9 on Channel 4) begins with a new, seven-minute sketch lampooning those "Real Housewives" reunion shows as seen on the batty Bravo cable network. Andy Cohen, the actual host of those shows, plays himself as do "The Real Women of SNL," a luminous group that includes such stalwarts of seasons past as Julia Louis-Dreyfus (piped in from Los Angeles), Cheri Oteri, Ana Gasteyer, Molly Shannon, Maya Rudolph, Rachel Dratch, Tina Fey and the outspoken Nora Dunn.

A more correct title for the special would be "The Living Women of 'Saturday Night Live' " because although Laraine Newman was lured back before the cameras for the sketch and some new interstitials, none of the great old Gilda Radner sketches were included in the (incomplete) copy of the show made available for preview. (Jane Curtin wasn't in evidence.) Maybe it was deduced that all the best sketches from the first five years have been played and replayed enough times and that the focus should be mainly on new generations of SNL gals. Er, ladies. Er, young women.

(Maybe youthful members of both sexes should simply be called "Guys." Already people often address a crowd of both sexes as "you guys," so it wouldn't be that much of a stretch).

There's some tweaking of both feminist and male chauvinist canards in the new sketch, which degenerates quickly into a session of gripes and accusations, the women playing absurdist versions of themselves. "I am a countess," Nora Dunn declares. "You are garbage," Rudolph says to Oteri (or maybe vice versa) after one is accused of "pulling" the other's "weave" off. They're performing the way the "real" characters perform on those shows and even get rewarded with canned laughter and applause. "Reality" television, bah!

Rudolph accuses Kristen Wiig -- herself a one-person stock company -- of choking her dog, Amy Poehler complains there is still a restraining order against her for having tried to ram three of the other women with a limousine, and Tina Fey renders the most godawful song, "I Wanna Spend Some Time Witcha" from her new CD, in a near-perfectly godawful way.

Having been thoroughly corrupted by cable, the women in the sketch all have some junk to plug -- Shannon pushes low-fat cocktails, Gasteyer shills for a skin-care line made with an unmentionable ingredient, Louis-Dreyfus hawks "eco-friendly slip-on earrings" and Poehler notes proudly that they have all made "sex tapes," which are also, of course, for sale.

After that rowdy beginning, the parade of fondly remembered sketches from past seasons hurries by, with an emphasis, for better or worse, on the more lewd and racy -- and just plain dirty -- sketches that make you wince and laugh at the same time or sometimes, just recoil. There are two major pieces built around innuendo about oral sex, one of them also a well-deserved smack at NPR not for the idiotic way it has treated commentator Juan Williams (that's too recent, of course, for a retro show) but for just how dull it can be. It's one of those two-woman talk show sketches in which the double entendre is audaciously outrageous.
ad_icon

Then, later, Christopher Walken, one of the absolutely most enigmatic guest hosts to log multiple visits, is seen in a replay of "Welcome Colonel Angus," a baldly ribald sketch set in the Deep South -- at an old plantation called Shady Thicket -- with each new line of dialogue more insanely suggestive than the last, the actors having high times with the hoary obviousness of it all.

And of course, on the far brighter side, there had to be a sketch in which Fey does her cherishable and imperishable impression of Sarah Palin, this one doubly great because Poehler does Hillary Clinton. There's a genuine satirical richness to these portrayals; they do go beyond simple impressions of the old school -- you know, Jimmy Cagney saying "you're the guy who shot my sister" and Cary Grant burbling "Judy Judy Judy" and so on.

"Saturday Night Live" has advanced the art of the impression immeasurably, even with Darrell Hammond now departed from the cast. On the other hand, there can be grievous relapses, as on the most recent SNL episode. The whole show was pretty lame, but a sketch supposedly parodying a relic from TV's past -- Vincent Price's Halloween special -- was just agonizingly witless. And none of the impressions seemed apt, much less clever.

But then again yet again (follow the bouncing pendulum) -- people are still talking, at least in smart circles (we're guessing, of course) about the sensational impression of Denzel Washington that newcomer Jay Pharoah did on another recent "SNL." Pharoah did his Eddie Murphy on Saturday night's show, also great. Pharaoh's is the kind of electrifying talent that can help recharge the batteries of everybody on the show -- at least, here's hoping.

But the topic at hand is "The Women of Saturday Night Live," having come into their own in the '90s and early aughts, most notably perhaps when Fey became head writer on the show, co-anchor of "Weekend Update" and a sparkling performer besides. Complain though we may about "Saturday Night Live," the show is still the greatest training ground for comic talent around -- and Monday night's special belabors the obvious with inarguably entertaining results.

Sell HUL; target of Rs 253: Prabhudas Lilladher

Prabhudas Lilladher is bearish on Hindustan Unilever and has recommended sell rating on the stock with a target of Rs 253 in its October 25, 2010 research report.
“Hindustan Unilever, nominal 1% volume growth in the base quarter, coupled with heavy ad spends of last 4-5 quarters, resulted in 14% volume growth, unsustainable in our view. Pricing environment, though, is not as destructive as it was two quarters back; it is far away from getting benign. Though revenue growth was in-line with expectations, PAT at Rs 5.32 billion came in ahead of expectations (Rs 5.06 billion) owing to a 60% jump in other income.”

“Despite a 40bps improvement each in gross margin and employee expenses, EBITDA margins declined 160bps YoY, mainly due to other expenses which went up 230bps YoY. Barring Ice Creams and Processed Foods, margins declined in every category, with Personal  Skin Care reporting a severe 330bps decline YoY to 23%. Ad spends at 13.6% has declined sequentially for the first time in the last seven quarters after trending up from 8.6% in December 2008 to 15.4% in June 2010. However, we expect a step-up in the competitive intensity, especially in Personal Care categories in the next two quarters and hence, rule out any material leeway from a decline in ad spends.”
“Sustainable double-digit volume growth is difficult to come by as the base becomes tougher, going forward (5% and 11% volume growth in Q3 and Q4FY10). Even though the Detergent price war is behind us, we don’t expect any significant improvement in the pricing power, given our expectations of elevated competitive pressures in Personal Care categories (Oral Care, Skin Care). However, we now value Hindustan Unilever (HUVR) at 22x FY12e EPS, to arrive at our revised target price of Rs 253 (Rs 218 earlier). At the current price, HUVR is trading at 26.6x FY12e, with downside risks to earnings. Maintain ‘Sell’,” says Prabhudas Lilladher research report.

Home Remedy To Become Fair

The skin of a person is dark because of  genetic reasons, exposure to sunlight and age. This color of  the skin depends on the amount of  pigment melanin. If you go out in the sun during the day, the skin will get tanned. Most home remedies will remove the skin tan only 2-3 days after you stop going out.

Many people use bleaching kits which are available at medical stores and chemist shops. Avoid using cosmetics like Fair & Lovely , Fair ever etc as these creams just have bleach mixed with lubricating creams so in the long run it could prove harmful.

Home remedies are cheap and without any side effects. Some of the home remedies for making skin fair and improving the complexion are:

1. Use a face pack consisting of cucumber juice, lemon juice and some rose water or you can also try a face mask with honey and lemon juice. These face packs or face masks have to be used for some time,  at least for a week for noticeable results.

2. Make a  paste using  Hilda  (Turmeric) with a little raw (unboiled) milk and lemon juice. Apply it on the skin, it will help in removing a tan.

3. Another mixture for lightening  the skin color would be buttermilk with a bit of oats in it. The oats has exfoliating capacity and the butter milk is an excellent after skin soother.

4. A mixture of lime juice, gram flour (bean)  and curd applied on the skin regularly will help you in getting rid of sun tan.

5. For bleaching in home the following mixture can be used -  Facial turmeric powder (kasthuri manjal) – 1 spoon, honey – ½ spoon, few drops of olive oil, curd – ½ spoon, table salt – ¼ spoon. Mix these items to make a paste and apply on your face.

Leave it for 15 minutes. Clean this with a cotton cloth. When you take a bath, wash your face with plain water and avoid soap.
You can use this, once in a week or twice in a month.

6. To lighten skin on Elbow and Knee, apply lime juice and leave it for 15 minutes.

7. The consistent use of coconut water (nariyal ) rids the face of a tan also the use of nariyal makes the skin soft and supple .

8. Home made sunscreen lotion helps to protect the skin from scorching heat of sun and is an effective to get rid of sun tanning. Mix  Sesame oil, Olive oil, Almond oil in the ratio 4:1:1 respectively. Apply this on the face and neck. Use mild bathing soap and rinse this with lukewarm water.

9. Apply the juice of thulsi leaves and the juice of orange peel on the skin, and leave it for some time. This will improve your complexion.

10. Papaya pulp can be applied on the skin, this will remove whiteheads on skin.

We hope these remedies solve your problem, and you will get a fair face by sitting in Home itself....

Eye-tech solutions: Say goodbye to puffiness, panda eyes and crow's feet with these cutting edge treatments

The one thing that all skin experts can agree on is that the eye area is the first to show signs of ageing.
'The skin around the eyes is the thinnest and most fragile on the body,' says Dr Paul Banwell, a consultant plastic and cosmetic surgeon. 'As we age, it becomes thinner, making dark circles more visible. Plus collagen and elastin structures begin to degrade, leading to droopy lids, wrinkles and eye bags.'
Fortunately, our war against skin ageing is being boosted thanks to an arsenal of high-tech eye-care products hitting our stores. Here's our pick of the latest launches...
Banish bags: Skin around the eyes is the first to show the signs of ageing but there are treatments to combat it
Banish bags: Skin around the eyes is the first to show the signs of ageing but there are treatments to combat it

LINES & WRINKLES
Muscle movement from smiling and squinting forms creases around the eyes. Plus, the eye zone is often neglected when it comes to applying sunscreen, which leaves the area vulnerable to ageing UVA rays.
To tackle these wrinkles, collagen- producing vitamin C and retinol are the heavyweight ingredients to look out for. Find them in Eve Lom's new Eyelift (£45; spacenk.co.uk), which also contains oat kernel extract to tone.

For deeper wrinkles and dark circles, Glo Therapeutics 7.5 per cent Eye Gel (£55; 020 7491 0150) combines high concentrations of vitamin C with a powerful octopeptide that targets expression lines.
For an immediate fix, a product containing hyaluronic acid - such as the latest offering from Dr Sebagh, Eye Primer Lift (£48; liberty. co.uk) - will bind water to the skin and fill lines. It includes a clever line-smoothing powder and natural growth factors - proteins that prompt the skin cells to produce more collagen.

SAGGING
Loss of elastin - the protein that gives skin its resilience - is the main cause of sagging eyelids. According to dermatologists, one of the most exciting advances in skin care is a new generation of creams that can increase the elastin production.

Givenchy's Le Soin Noir Yeux
Black algae sap concentrate: Givenchy's Le Soin Noir Yeux
Stimulation Technology that recharges the skin's regeneration process.
It is used in a two-step process - first, a serum containing copper and zinc ions is applied, before an activating moisturiser is layered on top, which generates a ten-millivolt charge that stimulates collagen and elastin production.
Testers of Givenchy's Le Soin Noir Yeux (£116; 01932 233 824) noticed brighter, tauter and smoother skin after one hour.
The charcoal-hued cream uses vital black algae sap concentrate.
The algae is rich in fatty acids and contains black molecules that repair the link between skin cells and regenerate collagen production. If droopy eyelids are a concern to you, Bremenn's Upper Eyelid Lifter (£52; victoriahealth.com) has a concentrated formula of peptides, botanical extracts and amino acids to tackle this problem.
DARK CIRCLES
The region beneath the under-eye skin is home to tiny blood vessels that give this area its dark colour.
Lack of sleep disturbs blood flow under the eyes, while allergies and rubbing can cause the vessels to dilate, making the dark hue more prominent. Until now, experts have warned against exfoliating this delicate area because of the risk of causing irritation.
Ole Henriksen
Skeen Perfect Eyes Powder
Target under-eye skin: Ole Henriksen, left, and Skeen Perfect Eyes Powder
But Hollywood facialist Ole Henriksen has brought out Truth Is In The Eyes (£55; 0800 123 400), the first peel for the eye zone. The lactic and glycolic acid dissolves dead skin, while soy and rice peptides help fade dark circles.
Vitamin C can brighten the skin and help strengthen blood vessel walls. Skeen Perfect Eyes Powder (£34; spacenk.co.uk) is enriched with pure vitamin C and lymph-stimulating caffeine. When applied, the powder turns into a gel that corrects dark circles.
PUFFINESS
Puffiness is caused by fluid under the eyes and requires stimulation to subside. To help deflate bags, beauty houses have come up with innovative vibration technology and massaging roller-ball applicators.
L'Oreal Micro-Vibration Eye

Aquasource eye perfection
Massaging: From left, L'Oreal Micro-Vibration Eye, Creme de la Mer and Aquasource Eye Perfection
L'Oreal Micro-Vibration Eye (£16.99; boots.com) includes an anti-ageing serum at one end and a vibrating tip at the other. The massaging motion reduces fluid retention and aids product penetration.

PRICE OF BEAUTY
In her lifetime, a woman will spend £23,100 on beauty products
The Body Shop Eye Reviver Duo (£10; thebodyshop.co.uk) includes a dual-ended applicator, with a de-puffing roll-on metal ball on one side and a dark circle-minimising cream at the other. Creme de la Mer's latest offering, Eye Balm Intense (£95; creme delamer.co.uk), comes with a cooling silver-tipped applicator to stimulate circulation and can also be used to carry out acupressure massage.
The cream is pumped with skin-lifting peptides, energising tourmaline crystals and bag-shrinking red algae. Biologists at Biotherm have come up with Aquasource Eye Perfection (£22; boots.com). The tube holds the equivalent of 5,000 litres of spring water to offer lasting hydration.
A three-ball massaging applicator dispenses a cooling gel that lowers skin temperature and reduces fluid retention.

The Best Ingredients for Your Skin

Our skin is the most important issue in our human parts and how happy we are? When someone says that hey, you are looking so beautiful! The important matter behind that is not the fairness, our skin get shiny by the blood circulation and the ingredients in our food.

The Skin is composed of many layers and tissues, and each of them needs requirements according to age.The first requirement for all the cells and tissues is energy, and this is supplied by sugars in honey and fruits, and medium chain triglycerides present in milk and coconut oil.

Certain vitamins play an essential part in the health and integrity of the skin, like Vitamin A which acts like a hormone on the skin cells, Vitamin E which acts as far as we know as anti-oxidant to guard against the harmful effects of oxidants

An important component of cell membranes is Lecithin (phospholipids) present in egg yolk and vegetable oils.

Fruit acids (alpha hydroxyl acids) requirement appears with age, when the superficial layer of dead cells is required to be shed off more quickly, and this is done by fruit acids when they reduce the stickiness of the cement material that holds the dead keratinized cells on the surface of skin.

There are some photochemical (present in plants) that have specific effects on enzymes of the skin. Since the human skin is very sensitive the skin dealing should be in natural mannar then our skin will be fresh an clear  for everlasting

Effects Of Bleaching On Women Of Less Age!

Bleaching is the process in which the unwanted hair present on your body is changed into your skin color.
Most of the women undergo this bleaching process to make the hair paler or lighter. The process of bleaching is not a tough process and even you can perform it by your own using various types of home bleaching kits available in the market.
The bleaching kits contain a bleach mixture, which will be in the form of a cream and an activator. You have to mix the activator in the cream in a non-metallic bowl before applying it to your face [Benefits of skin bleaching].Bleaching
Before performing bleaching on your face, you have to test on small area of your body. If you do not feel any itching or burning sensation, then only you have to go for it, otherwise leave the process. Usually, bleaching will not be suitable for all.
If your age is below 20, you should not go for bleaching, as there will be several harmful effects on your skin.
Effects of bleaching in less age:
  • If you are below 20 years, your skin will be sensitive and cannot bare any chemical reactions that take place on your skin. Peroxide related chemicals will be present in bleaching, which acts much on your skin. The chemical reactions that take place with bleaching on your skin will have positive as well as negative reactions. If it works positively, then you can continue, otherwise do not continue bleaching on your skin.
  • Bleaching causes an intense itching if you apply it on the skin. In some people, itching disappears as soon as you wash away the bleach. However, in others, the skin will become red, irritated, inflamed and dark marks, blisters and eruptions can appear. If this happens, you should not use bleach in that area again.
  • If you have dark skin tone, applying bleach can lighten the skin temporarily in that area for few hours.
  • Skin darkening is one of the side effects of bleaching in many people.
  • Irritations and burns will result on your skin when you use bleaching in less age. The total texture and color of your skin will change if you keep it for more time than prescribed.
  • Bleaching in less age can develop pimples on your face and body if you practice more often and your natural look will damage.
  • Not only the external part, the inner part of the skin will also affect with bleaching

Skin Care Tips For Teens From The Experts

In a recent post from Teen Vogue, 6 experts came together to share secrets for flawless skin and complexion, particularly for teens, which go something like this:

Marsha Gordon, M.D., a consulting dermatologist to St. Ives explains that teen acne is chiefly due to hormonal changes causing excess sebum to be produced.

skin care tips for teens

Brook Jackson, M.D. points out that those teens who are involved in sport that require pads, helmets, straps and other protective gear will often have dirt and sweat trapped in their pores, resulting in breakouts.

So face washing should be done as soon after workouts as may be possible. She stresses the importance of establishing good routines during one’s teens, to help prevent problems later. The number one No-No according to her is falling asleep without removing makeup.

Exfoliation, according to Dr Jackson, is essential, but should be gentle and should depend upon what your skin can handle.

Tracie Martyn, celebrity facialist from New York says it is important to avoid greasy or waxy skin care products. Use moisturizers with Salicylic acid – to unclog pores along with moisturizing. And use a moisturizer; even if you have oily skin. She explains that drying out acne is not helpful; it conversely inflames the skin further and is not advisable.

Wanda Herrera, a cosmetologist at Cal-A-Vie spa urges against ‘attacking’ acne and trying to hurry them along by bursting, picking, pricking them. This, according to her will result in scars that may take years to heal!

Nicholas Perricone, M.D., a Meriden, Connecticut–based dermatologist speaks of the importance of eating healthy fats such as those obtained from nuts, avocado, olive oil and salmon. On the other hand, starchy and refined foods can worsen problems. To avoid puffy eyes and dark circles, get enough rest and 8 hours quality sleep each night.

According to Perricone, a real No-no is smoking. Just one puff, generates a trillion free radicals in the lungs and consequently, inflammatory responses in the body’s organs which includes the biggest organ, the skin! Smoking means sallow unhealthy skin and premature aging in the long run.

Sonya Dakar, Beverly Hills aesthetician advises never to leave home without sun protection (at least SPF 30) to prevent dehydration and age spots. And the sun won’t dry out acne either; rather the bacteria love sweat and the sun! The pimple will actually ripen out in the sun rather than shrink.

Skin Protection

The important thing in Human is the appearance which expresses the personality.Even you are about to search for a job the first thing they look for your personality. In such a way human skin  play  a important role so we must protect our skin.

Just as cardiac bypass should not be a substitute for the prevention of heart disease, rejuvenating treatments should not and cannot replace prevention of premature skin aging. In fact, protecting your skin from damage remains the single most effective (and cost-effective) thing you can do to retain youthful appearance as you age.

Sun exposure  (ultraviolet radiation) is the primary cause of skin damage and skin cancer. Oftentimes it is a greater contributor to skin aging than all other factors combined, including the intrinsic aging of skin cells.

Therefore, consistently preventing skin damage from the sun's UV rays (in not just outdoors in summertime) should be the single most important aspect of your skin care strategy. Meticulous UV protection may not only prevent premature skin aging but also facilitate the reversal of some of the existing signs of aging.

However, getting your sun protection right is not as simple as it might seem unless you plan to live in a windowless cellar.

•  Plan  outdoor activities early or late in the day to avoid peak sunlight hours between 10 am and 4 pm.

• Avoid tanning beds.

• Wear a broad-brimmed hat and sunglasses.

•   Sit in the shade whenever possible.

•   Wear protective, tightly-woven clothing.

•   Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with a SPF of at least 15 on all exposed skin, including the lips,Even on cloudy days.

•   Use a water-resistant sunscreen if exposed to water, either through swimming or sweating.

•   Apply sunscreen 20-30 min prior to exposure and reapply frequently.

Eye balm that makes you look fresh

YOUR eyes will show if you have had a stressful day or didn’t get enough sleep. To counter puffiness and lift the eye area, La Mer has come up with The Eye Balm Intense, which combines its original miracle broth (Crème de la Mer), a concentrated and an encapsulated cream.
To re-energise tired looking skin, there’s energy-rich deep sea red algae, together with a rare tourmaline, which delivers ingredients deep into the skin’s surface. At the same time, a new combination of La Mer’s Marine Peptide Ferment – Phyto Ferment and Mineral Ferment – reinforces the skin’s natural support system by helping to boost its natural production of collagen and elastin.
The eye balm comes with a silver-tipped applicator that helps stimulate micro-circulation. Available at RM550 at La Mer counters.

Meanwhile, the AbsoluCaviar Ultra Lift Eye Gel is touted to provide exceptional treatment to restructure and restore the skin to its optimum elasticity and firmness, giving the eye contour area a radiant and youthful lift. Ingredients like caviar and bio-marine complex help to revitalise skin.

Sago mask

ESLLON Revolutionary Bio-Gel Facial Mask is claimed to give youthful and irresistibly smooth skin within five days. Collaborating with the Malaysian Nuclear Agency (formerly known as Malaysian Institute for Nuclear Technology Research) and the Japan Atomic Energy Research Institute, Esllon offers a sago hydrogel mask, a 100% natural bio-mask that is free from preservatives, chemicals, fertilisers and fragrance.
The breakthrough formula consists of three key ingredients: sago essence, water-soluble polymers and 80% water. This is based on research that the sago plant is said to have anti-oxidant, anti-bacterial and anti-ageing properties.
The mask is claimed to use advanced technology that allows sago essence to penetrate deeper into the skin, removing excess sebum, dirt, bacteria and dead skin cells from the pores.
The high water content hydrates the skin and forms a physical healing barrier against bacteria.
With healthier cell growth, pore size is visibly minimised, acne scars are lightened and skin tone evened out.
Price: RM120/box of five pieces. Available at esllon.com.my or through Joindon Symbol Holding Sdn Bhd and Easy Pha-max outlets.
